The completion of the Refurbisment to the heritage listed Dalton Chapel on the grounds of Saint Ignatius College represents yet another project that proves our versatility and ability to handle even the most detailed of projects.

The first chapel was a converted classroom, measuring 52ft by 17ft, seating 150 people and opened in April 1882. This remained in very active use. The chapel centre piece was the highly ornate marble Hughes altar, which was relocated into the Dalton Memorial Chapel in 1909.

The interior of the chapel was provided with a general refurbishment with the addition of a new stair on the south eastern corner of the later transept to allow easier access to the chapel. A new entry porch was also installed and is located on the north end of the chapel to allow for connection to the rest of the school complex.

Our scope of works also involved the removal and replacement of furniture and fittings which were neither practical nor adaptable to the contemporary worship needs of the school community and physical changes to improve ventilation, natural lighting and visibility within the chapel.

The works as you can imagine required all involved to be sympathetic to the existing heritage features as well as an ability to deliver detailed workmanship that is so often lacking in today’s commercially driven building environment.

We have revitalised the chapel while maintaining its existing heritage features.
