ST DOMINIC’S COLLEGE – BUILDING A & BUILDING E

This project was to transform Building A and construct new Building E, to deliver a dynamic and contemporary space that supports educational excellence at St Dominic’s College.

Novati Constructions was engaged under a Construct Only contract to undertake major building works at St Dominic’s College at Kingswood. The development was staged into two parts with two separate buildings to be built sequentially. This was done to accommodate for and to limit disruptions to staff, teachers, and students.

Stage One involved the demolition of existing lightweight structures and the construction of a new building – Building E. Designed by PMDL Architecture & Design, Building E features a multi-purpose hall, flexible and modern learning spaces, a gym, changerooms and a semi underground carpark. The school’s newly created spaces were designed to be dynamic and inclusive, with multiple functions and/or users in mind.

Stage Two involved the redevelopment of staff and library rooms and the expansion of the school’s facilities with a new two-storey administration building – Building A. This upgrade includes a new entry reception, staff and executive hubs and a library.

A challenge for the Novati Team was integration with the school, i.e., integrating with the school’s systems and with the needs and movements of staff and students. The sequential approach to St Dominic’s development required our Novati Team to careful coordinate its activities and to constantly engage with the school and its stakeholders to ensure the timely transition into Building A and that work progressed smoothly.

In addition to the reward of completing a fulfilling school build, the Novati Team notes the Student Project Walkthrough as being a highlight of this project. The Walkthrough engaged and exposed budding construction students of St Dominic to the project, via a Toolbox talk and an escorted tour of the site. This learning activity was equally inspiring to the Team who enacted Novati Constructions’ commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation of construction personnel.
