The Senior Boarding Residence, the construction of The Kevin Fagan house was a 13 months project completed on the grounds of Saint Ignatius’ College, despite many challenges the project was completed on time and within budget.

The three storey boarding house provides accommodation for the senior year 11 & 12 boarders of the college. The building comprises 160 rooms that provide senior boys with private individual rooms consisting of a bed, study desk area, wardrobe, and individual corner basins. Common amenities include function and meeting rooms, a chapel, a lift, as well as laundry, bathroom and shower facilities. The building also has Masters Accommodation added to either end of the main central structure.

Smartly designed to blend with the existing landscape and trees, the building was constructed using sandstone coloured brick work to complement its surroundings. Natural light, ventilation and durable finishes were a major consideration, as well as a cost-effective construction with the flexibility for future changes in the layout of the building if necessary.

As the building contractor, this project demanded an ability to keep to budget and an ability to pre-empt any possible cost ‘blow-outs’, as well as a willingness to provide cost effective solutions to various building issues as they evolved. Deadlines had to be met surrounding school vacations and formal school functions that took months to prepare.

The construction of the Kevin Fagan House was a challenging project that required long hours and ability to adapt to changing circumstances; however our efforts were richly rewarded by the understanding, support and school spirit that exists between all parents, teachers, staff and students at the college.
